Breathe off at the Stamford Bridge, a completely new perspective for Thomas Tuchel and his expensive stars: a billion -dollar deal at record height gives Chelsea brilliant prospects again. After weeks of fear, the top club from London now agreed with a new investor on the legacy of the previous club owner Roman Abramovich, the takeover of the Champions League winner is imminent.

If the British government and the Premier League take over the takeover by the group of investors around the US billionaire Todd Boehly, known in the clubs world, the fresh capital could flow in May. The contract signed according to English media reports has a financial volume of £ 4.25 billion (around 5 billion euros) – it is the highest amount that has ever been spent on a clubs club.

“The sale is expected to be completed at the end of May, subject to obtaining all necessary official permits,” says a club statement that was published early Saturday morning. Three consortia had recently made offers, the choice fell on the group around Boelyy, the difficult -rich co -owner of the American baseball team Los Angeles Dodgers.

According to the club, £ 2.5 billion (3 billion euros) of the money is to be transferred to a frozen account, the transactions of which are monitored by the British government. Above all, it should be ensured that the Russian oligarch Abramovich does not benefit personally when selling. Another £ 1.75 billion (2 billion euros) are to be invested directly in the club around the former Bundesliga coach Tuchel.

Due to the Russian war of attack against Ukraine, Abramovich’s assets (club owners since 2003) were recently frozen by Great Britain – Chelsea was thus presented with massive problems. The Londoners around the German international Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Antonio Rüdiger lost their main sponsor and were recently only allowed to stay in the league thanks to a special license.

Tuchel optimistic

Already on Friday a turnaround emerged when Tuchel publicly hinted at the agreement with a new owner. “I heard that there is a preferred bidder and the matter is going well,” he said: “If the situation is clear, we are able to act and can make decisions.”

At the moment, the emphasized Tuchel, who led the club to the royal class triumph last year, was the association “in a passive role” and therefore in no good position. The coach sees that national player Antonio Rüdiger will leave the blues as a direct episode of the sanctions imposed against Abramovich.

The unclear situation is stressful for his players and has consequences for all planning. “We tried not to put the matter into focus if possible. But of course it is omnipresent,” said Tuchel.

Now he and his stars can breathe a sigh of relief.
