The German runners were far back on Saturday, the best starter of the German Ski Association (DSV) was Jonas Dobler (Traunstein) as a 20th with 3:17 minutes behind. Florian Notz (Römerstein) came to rank 29 (+3: 59), Friedrich Moch (ISNY) became 31. (+4: 30), Lucas Bögl (Gaßach) 33. (+4: 38).

The five-time Olympic champion Johannes Hösflot Kläbo fell back early, rose after two thirds of the distance and missed his third success in Beijing. The Finn Iivo Niskanen, who had brought in 2018 in Pyeongchang in classical fifties, was not at the start. The 15 km winner of Beijing is not one of the absolute top runs outdoors.

Only one hour before the planned start on Saturday was announced that the distance is reduced by 20 km. The step was justified with security concerns because the athletes would otherwise have been exposed to too long extreme conditions. In addition, the start time was moved backwards by 60 minutes.
