The comprehensive medical tests were successful, the contract is signed: Christian Eriksen (29) Connects Premier League newcomer FC Brentford and thus stands seven months after his cardiac arrest at the EM before returning to the football field.
The Club from London, currently on course leaving in England, equipped the release-free midfield director with a contract until the end of the season. Brentford coach Thomas Frank, who has been in office since 2018 and has just extended until 2025, is like Eriksen Dane.
Eriksen had suffered a cardiac arrest in his 109th international match, the EM group match against Finland on June 12, 2021 (“I was five minutes dead”), but thanks to the spiritual reaction of all those involved survived. Whether he could play a professional football again, was completely uncertain then.
Later, he was used a defibrillator, which, however, led to the termination of the contract in December at his then employer Inter Milan, because it is prohibited in Italy to play with such an implanted device.
In the Premier League, in which the free-sizing specialist between 2013 and 2020 for Brentford’s neighbors Tottenham Hotspur completed 226 Games (51 goals, 62 assists), there is not such a rule. Nevertheless, Eriksen becomes the first player of the league, which carries a defibrillator.
