With Niklas Süle (FC Bayern) and Nico Schlotterbeck (SC Freiburg), Borussia Dortmund has already signed two new players for the coming season. But BVB can look forward to another “newcomer” from its own ranks: Mateu Morey.
The 22-year-old right-back had torn the cruciate ligament at the DFB Cup semi-final against Holstein in May 2021. Since then, Morey has been operated on twice.
As the “picture” now reports, the Spaniard is making progress in his rehab. Accordingly, there was even hopes at BVB that the defender could still do parts of the team training this season. But ultimately, it was decided that Morey will get back into training in the coming season.
Coach Marco Rose gets another “newcomer”. In his previous time with the black and yellow, the coach had to do without Morey.
Morey spoke up in early May
Last October, Morey had been able to complete his first running units, he completed large parts of his rehab in his home country of Mallorca. Most recently, the 22-year-old had announced the end of his suffering. “I am at the end of my rehabilitation time, I see the light at the end of the tunnel,” he wrote on Twitter.
“I am sure that this injury as a person and player let me grow, I will continue to do my best to help BVB on the lawn,” he added. In addition, the right-back thanked his “family, friends, teammates, the BVB fans and all the people who supported him” in order to finally be able to play football again.
So far, Morey has played 40 games in the Borussia Dortmund jersey, 18 of them in the Bundesliga, four in the DFB Cup and seven in the Champions League. After moving from FC Barcelona in summer 2019, he was initially traveling with the second team in the regional league.
